My Tweets About the Biblical Counseling Training Conference 2012

Following are my tweets from the Biblical Counseling Training Conference at Faith Church in Lafayette, Indiana, February 13-17.  Together they are a summary of the classes and sermons that I heard in Track 4.  Of course, 140 characters can only capture highlights and serve as teasers to learn more!  If you respond to this post with questions I’ll try to answer them.

20 Feb Charles Hodges @runningdoc @VicRobertson3 Not clear if marijuana/other drugs cause schizophrenia but drug use seems to be related. Marijuana use seems to increase risk

19 Feb @runningdoc: schizophrenics–can respond to biblical counsel for sin & learn biblical handling of emotions. Hope is in Christ! #bctconf

19 Feb @runningdoc: U.S. schizophrenics use 25% of hospital bed days & 20% of Soc Sec benefits/ since ’72 no forced meds or institutions. #bctconf

19 Feb Dr.Wickert: everyone has a death sentence–let it focus you on heaven & eternal life with Christ. We love this world too much. #bctconf

19 Feb Dr.Wickert: Christians should always be preparing for death, putting death into eternal perspective, putting death into priority. #bctconf

15 Feb Higbee: for the abused, Godly sorrow almost always gets mixed up with toxic shame. Help the person know the difference. #bctconf

15 Feb Bigney: God’s sovereignty means he chose your parents, body, & birth place & time. You fit his plan. There are no “misfits.” #bctconf

14 Feb Vision of Hope: ladies lived with such inhumane sin against them, as living with beasts, that they must and are learning to be human. #BCTC

13 Feb Kellemen: in marriage counseling teach communication before addressing heart issues & we only create more effective manipulators! #BCTC

13 Feb K Carson: a counselor’s anger cannot do what God’s wrath can, & puts the counselor in God’s place. Counsel gently patiently humbly. #BCTC

13 Feb S Scott: brain injury may be a life time holistic ministry of the whole gospel to whole person/family/church, and a world witness. #BCTC

13 Feb Baker: Self-pity mistakenly views…suffering as unproductive, self as sovereign and wise, God’s sovereignty as harsh. #BCTC

13 Feb VoH: 6 ladies abused/enslaved or nearly died. 1 said, “God ordained my suffering for my good and for his glory.” Amazing faith. #BCTC

13 Feb Dr. G Higbee: God’s people should have more compassion for homosexuals than does the gay community. Help them change identity. #BCTC

13 Feb Dr. G. Higbee believes the church will suffer more and more persecution as it continues to stand biblically against homosexuality. #BCTC
